Projects

Dementia Fiddle Mats

Our Lions Club's major project is the making of Dementia Fiddle Mats which are dontated to the Flinders Medical Centre for dementia patients to comfort them whilst in hospital. Debbie McCarthy, Team Coordinator at Flinders Medical Centre Emergency Department was a guest speaker at a recent meeting and she expressed her profound gratitude on behalf of the CEO, staff and patients for the donation of the mats. She highlighted that we are the first Lions Club to undertake such a project which has been widely praised and appreciated for the benefits they bring. Due to the success of the mats, the hosptial is now undertaking a research project into their beneifits and will also support the club by supplying any materials needed through staff contributions. Lion members Jan Chant and Noreen Creek coordinate the making of the mats with Jan recently being awarded the James D Richardson Honour Award for her wonderful work and contribution to this cause.
